BSA High Adventure Camps
High adventure is the next evolution of the Scouting Experience, drawing on what the scout has learned in the Scouting program so far and ramping up the adventure. High adventure camps focus more on individual experiences and group dynamics. Different from a traditional Scout summer camp experience, merit badges aren’t the focus (but that doesn’t mean scouts can’t earn a few while there) and instead it’s all about making memories and getting life experiences that will last forever. Glen Jean, West Virginia
Situated in the wilds of West Virginia, The Summit is a training, Scouting, and adventure center for the millions of youth and adults involved in the Boy Scouts of America and anyone who loves the outdoors. Strategically located close to major highways, it is within 500 miles of 63% of the US Population and easily reached by all of our surrounding States.

SBR Programs Summit Bechtel Reserve (SBR) programs are all about challenging Scouts and Venturers. Whether earning merit badges, problem-solving on the challenge course, or rafting down some of the best white water in the country, those willing to test their mettle at The Summit will come away changed for the better.

Summit is unique in that it operates a traditional Summer Camp alongside High Adventure Programs. Programs are available for ages 11 -20. Units should look to book about a year out. Bring the whole unit and Summit On!
PHILMONT
SCOUT RANCH
Cimarron, New Mexico
Philmont Scout Ranch is the Boy Scouts of America’s largest National High Adventure Base and covers 140,177 acres of rugged mountain wilderness in the Sangre de Cristo range of the Rocky Mountains in northeastern New Mexico.

Philmont Scout Ranch operates 35 staffed camps and 55 trail camps across the rugged terrain that ranges in elevation from 6,500 to 12,441 feet.

Philmont provides unforgettable backpacking adventures across miles of rugged, rocky trails! And, Philmont Scout Ranch offers programs that feature the best of the Old West—horseback riding, burro packing, gold panning, chuckwagon dinners, and interpretive history—with exciting challenges for today such as rock climbing, mountain biking, and sport shooting. It’s an unbeatable recipe for fast-paced fun in the outdoors.

Units can sign up to create crews ranging from 8-12 participants.
Ely, Minnesota
Northern Tier is the Boy Scouts of America’s gateway to adventure in the Great Northwoods of Northern Minnesota. Scouts explore millions of acres of pristine lakes, meandering rivers, dense forests and wetlands in Northern Minnesota, Northwest Ontario and Northeast Manitoba all by canoe.

Northern Tier crews paddle in almost 6 million acres of exclusively canoe-access wilderness from the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) of Minnesota to the Atikaki Provincial Park of Manitoba. Trips range in length from 6-14 days and usually include between 50-150 miles of wilderness travel.
In the winter, Northern Tier is home to the Okpik Cold Weather Camping program, the BSA’s premier winter high adventure program. Fall trips are also available.
All trips are fully outfitted and provisioned. A highly trained staff member, called an Interpreter, accompanies all crews on their trek. All participants must be age 14 by the time they arrive at Northern Tier OR have graduated from the 8th grade and be age 13 by the time they arrive.
Islamorada, Florida Keys
At Scouting’s Sea Base High Adventure you can sail, fish, kayak, snorkel, SCUBA dive, and explore islands in the Florida Straits, Atlantic Ocean, and the Caribbean Sea. Sea Base’s 20 programs each specialize in a particular area of interest, whether your unit is experiencing these tropical environments or skills for the first time, or are experienced seafarers. Find an adventure that fits your unit’s interests: in camping trips, marine science, sailing, SCUBA diving, or saltwater fishing. Sea Base Adventures provide the opportunity to explore historic seaports and state parks, kayak on the ocean, to observe the rich biodiversity of these saltwater ecosystems. Participants can even complete a service project with the Order of the Arrow at Dry Tortugas National Park.

Participants sign up for adventures as a unit. Adventure crew sizes range from a maximum of 8 participants (adult and youth combined) to a maximum of 20 participants.

Ocean Adventures that make a lifetime difference. There are great dates available for 2022 in the spring, summer, and Holiday season but they are filling fast.

Sea Base staff are ready to answer any questions you may have regarding organizing your Crew, paperwork, preparation, and what experience is best for your Scouts. Participants must be 12 years of age prior to arrival for all programs except Scuba, St. Thomas, or Out Island in which case participants must be 13 years of age.
